What is V2L? (Taking electricity from the car)

New models are added often and some cars gain V2L through later software updates — Togg T10F, for instance, gained the feature with a 2026 software update. Does a Tesla have V2L?
Short answer: no. The great majority of Tesla's models on sale (including the Model 3 and the Model Y) do not offer V2L from the factory; that is, you cannot turn a Tesla directly into a socket and power devices, and the brand-specific V2L adapters in this article are not suitable for a Tesla. V2L is a headline advantage of brands such as Hyundai and Kia (the E-GMP platform), Togg, MG, BYD and KGM. For a driver who wants to take electricity from their car, it makes sense to check V2L support when deciding on a purchase.
How many kW does V2L deliver, and what can it run?
On most cars the V2L output is around 3–3.7 kW (usually a single earthed Schuko socket at 230V and up to 16A). The exact value varies by car — for example, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6 deliver about 3.6 kW and the KGM Torres EVX about 3.5 kW. In everyday life this power turns out to be surprisingly useful.

But you cannot plug straight into that socket; a V2L output adapter goes in between. This adapter takes the car's Type 2 charging socket and gives you a standard earthed socket (Schuko) — and you plug your device straight into it. An important point: V2L adapters are mostly brand-specific. That is because different manufacturers provide the V2L output on the socket with a different pin arrangement and handshake logic.
