The question that most often causes confusion when buying an EV charger for your home is usually this: should I buy single-phase or three-phase (3 phases)? This is really a decision about your electrical installation, one that comes before any choice of brand or model. The right answer depends on your home's electrical infrastructure and your daily habits. In this guide we compare the two options with their real technical values and explain clearly which user each one suits.

What is the difference between single-phase and three-phase?

The difference lies in how many phases the electricity reaching your home is carried on. Single-phase means one phase and carries roughly 230 volts. In Türkiye most homes have a single-phase connection; that is, your home most likely has single-phase electricity. Three-phase means three phases and can carry more power at the same time at roughly 400 volts. Because it can transfer more energy in the same period, three-phase speeds up charging, but it requires a 3-phase connection and an installation to match.

How do I find out the phase of my home?

There are a few clues you can turn to in order to find out whether your home is single-phase or three-phase. Your electricity bill or your connection type may include phase information. Looking at your distribution board (fuse box), the appearance can be a clue typical of a three-phase installation. But these are only for forming an idea; for a definite answer you must consult a qualified electrician. Only an expert can properly assess the phase configuration, the carrying capacity of the existing line and, if necessary, the possibility of switching to three-phase.
